Dental Implants NYC

Overview

What is dental implant oral surgery?

Dental implant oral surgery is a procedure that is performed by NYC Oral Surgeon Ruben Cohen, DDS.  Dental implant surgery replaces damaged or missing teeth with artificial teeth that are similar to real teeth in appearance and function. Dental implants are also used to replace tooth roots by fusing metal posts with the jawbone. Unlike dentures or bridgework, this procedure provides a better fit and causes no bone damage. This oral surgery is usually performed in multiple stages, using several procedures, and may require several months for proper healing. Every dental implants case is customized by the  Oral Surgeon. He offers affordable dental implant surgery.

Diagnosis

Generally speaking, you should consider dental implants oral surgery if you have the following:

  • One or more missing teeth
  • A jawbone that’s reached full growth
  • Adequate bone to secure the implants or if you are willing to undergo a bone grafting procedure
  • Healthy oral tissues
  • Inability or unwillingness to wear dentures
  • A desire to improve your speech
  • Willingness to commit several months to the process

The diagnosis process for dental implants involves a series of tests including X-rays and models that will be taken at the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon’s full accredited contemporary office, that will provide a clear picture regarding your specific condition.

Before proceeding with dental implant surgery, you should receive a comprehensive dental exam including X-rays and models of your teeth and mouth. The treatment plan takes into account many factors, such as condition of your jawbone, your medical history, current medications, etc. Several anesthesia options are available for the surgery, such as local anesthesia, sedation, and general anesthesia. During the consultation, the Surgeon will inform you about any dietary restrictions prior to the procedure.

When multiple dental implants need to be placed, Dr. Ruben Cohen has the technology to place your implants very precisely and with minimum chair time.  Dr. Cohen can provide patients with fully functioning teeth using dental implants in one single dental procedure that lasts about an hour (“ Teeth-in-an Hour ”). This technology, “Teeth-in-an-Hour” was developed by Nobel Biocare , and allows for collaboration between both the restorative dentist and Ruben Cohen, DDS.

This merging of knowledge and experience achieves not only increased safety, but also a more precise dental implant placement. In addition, the fabrication of a final prosthesis is completed prior to the dental implant surgery. The computer-guided dental implant surgery is performed in an arthroscopic fashion without requiring any flap reflection.  Due to the less invasive nature of this procedure, patients often experience less post operative discomfort, less swelling and less bruising. Often, patients can resume their normal activities the next day.
